CAT (Common Admission Test)

Common Admission Test aka CAT is India’s largest MBA entrance exam and the CAT score of a candidate is validated by thousands of MBA colleges across the nation. Every year, nearly 2.3 lakh MBA aspirants appear for the CAT in the month of December. CAT exam is conducted in a computer-based format. Generally, the application process for the CAT exam begins in the month of August and the exam is held in the month of November. Apart from IIMs, there are various other premium b-schools that offer admissions on the basis of the CAT score of the candidates. It’s a computer-based aptitude test divided into four sections- Quantitative Ability, Verbal Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and Data Interpretation.

CAT Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have cleared the bachelor's program with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45 percent aggregate for SC, ST, and PWD/DA category) from a recognized board or university.
  • The candidate must have completed a professional degree (CA/ CS/ ICWA) with the required percentage.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification or awaiting result are also eligible to apply for CAT 2021

IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade)

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi is the conducting body of this entrance exam to shortlist the candidates for their full-time and part-time MBA in International Business programs.

The IIFT exam is a management aptitude test conducted for admission to the MBA International Business course offered by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Delhi, Kolkata, and Kakinada. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the IIFT exam on behalf of the institute. In IIFT 2021, a total of 33,393 candidates registered for the exam while 27,944 candidates appeared for it. The IIFT question paper consisted of questions from Verbal Ability & Reading ComprehensionQuantitative AbilityData Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. The duration of this online exam is two hours. IIFT accepts foreign/NRI/PIO candidates for admission on the basis of GMAT score. IIFT 2022 exam notification will be released in August-September and the exam will be conducted in December-January. 

IIFT Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years duration in any discipline or equivalent from a recognized university
  • Candidates belonging to the General category must have secured at least 50 percent aggregate in graduation (45 percent for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories)
  • Candidates in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates are required to submit the proof of requisite qualification by October 7, 2022

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test)

It’s a national-level test conducted by Symbiosis Business School for admission to MBA programs offered by its 15 constituent institutes. It assesses the aptitude level of candidates applying for an MBA at SYMBI. It’s also organized every year by the apex body. Symbiosis doesn’t accept the CAT scores and offers admission on the basis of scores earned by the candidates in SNAP. This year, the authority is planning to remove the current affairs section from this exam to follow the pattern of CAT.

SNAP Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates with at least 50 percent aggregate (45 percent for SC/ST/PWD candidates) or equivalent from recognized university or institute
  • Final-year graduation students can also apply for SNAP 2021. Their admission will remain provisional until submission of the passing certificate 
  • International students, who have graduated from an international university, can apply for the SNAP test after obtaining a certificate of equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

XLRI, Jamshedpur is also one of the top-notch b-schools in India that offer admission on the basis of XAT, not CAT. Apart from these, nearly 150+ B-schools accept XAT exam scores to select students for admission to MBA / PGDM programs. The test is conducted to screen and shortlist students for admission to a post-graduate degree program in Management at XLRI, XIM, XISS, LIBA, etc. Every year, about 1 lakh aspirants appear for the XAT exam in the month of January. From 2019 onwards, the XAT exam will be conducted in an online format. Typically, the application process for the XAT exam starts in August and the exam is conducted in the month of January. You need to score at least 95 percentile in XAT to expect a call for the interview from XLRI. The written exam is followed by GD, PI, and a 20-minute essay writing round for the candidates who receive the interview call from the institution.

CMAT (Common Management Admission Test)

CMAT or the Common Management Admission Test is an aptitude test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBA/PGDM courses in over 1,000 B-Schools across India. CMAT 2021 exam will be conducted in online mode and the duration of the exam is three hours. The CMAT question paper consists of 100 questions from Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Awareness. The total marks of CMAT are 400. From 2021, the CMAT score will be accepted for admission to MBA programs offered by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) affiliated colleges/institutes across Uttar Pradesh for the academic year 2021-22. CMAT test takers can participate in UPSEE MBA counseling. 

CMAT Eligibility Criteria

  • A new section has been added to the CMAT question paper. The new section, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship will be an optional section carrying 25 questions. 
  • Extra 30 minutes will be given to students who opt for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship section which means the total time available to students will be 3 hours and 30 minutes. Those not opting for the new optional section will get three hours to complete the paper.

MAT (Management Aptitude Test)

MAT or the Management Aptitude Test is a national-level MBA entrance exam that is held 4 times in an academic year. The entrance exam is organized by the All India Management Association. Typically, the MAT exam is held in the months of February, May, September, and December. The exam is conducted as, both, ‘Computer Based Test’ as well as a ‘Paper Based Test’. Candidates are also allowed to appear for the exam in both modes during a single session. For each session, around 20,000 MBA aspirants appear for the MAT exam. The MAT exam score is accepted by nearly 300+ B-schools for screening students for admission to MBA programs.

MAT is conducted in offline (Paper Based Test or PBT), online (Computer Based Test or CBT), and remotely proctored (Internet Based Test or IBT) modes. Candidates can choose to appear in the exam in any mode as per their preference. Fees, exam pattern, and syllabus for all three modes are the same but exam dates are different.
